MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: WSMA Virtual Solo Festival We are proud to announce our 2020 WSMA Virtual Solo Festival! This opportunity will provide a platform for students who prepared a solo at cancelled district and/or state festivals to perform for adjudicator feedback, and if desired, a rating. Note: There will be an appeal form for small ensemble consideration on a case-by-case basis. WSMA Member School music educators will receive detailed information this afternoon about the festival through their primary email address, and there will be information provided that can be easily forwarded to students and families. Registration will open on Wednesday, March 25, and in the meantime, we encourage music educators and students to begin preparing for their festival entries. District will close on Wednesday, April 15 and State will close on Monday, May 4. After registration opens, we will share opportunities for students to engage with each other and celebrate their learning through social media! We also encourage everyone to consider use of our WSMA Festival profile picture frames during this time. Our gratitude to the WSMA Staff, 250+ WSMA Adjudicators, and countless Wisconsin music educators who will make this all possible. A special thanks to CS Music Auditions for partnering with WSMA to ensure a platform was provided supporting both students and adjudicators in the protected exchange of files and videos. A message to my students during our Corona-quarantine!
One positive to this mess is the fact that so many great musicians and educators are going bananas with online content (in a good way). There are dozens of new videos, masterclasses, and great information being posted daily. 🎺🎺 ... See more
WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH | If you've followed our "Through the Years" historical series, you've learned that the Airmen of Note has done numerous recordings and performances with vocal legend Sarah Vaughan! Paige Wroble, we often perform works from the big band books of other female jazz icons, including Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, and Diane Schuur (to name a few). Here's Sgt. Wroble singing "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," as recorded by Ella in 1938. Our version was filmed in 2017 in celebration of Ella's centennial! (Videography by MSgt Emily Wellington) ... See more
